Our Leadership Team

Leslie Saxon, MD, is founder and Executive Director of the USC Center for Body Computing and Professor of Medicine (Clinical Scholar) at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, where she directs the Cardiovascular Research Unit. An interventional cardiologist and electrophysiologist with more than 200 peer-reviewed publications, she has contributed to FDA regulatory policy in digital health and leads CBC’s Department of Defense-funded research on continuous monitoring of Service Members. 

Trevor Barrett, PhD, is Senior Data Scientist and Research Psychologist at the USC Center for Body Computing, where he leads the statistical analysis of CBC’s warfighter research. He holds a doctorate in Psychological and Brain Sciences from UC Santa Barbara and joined CBC as a postdoctoral researcher in 2019; he is first author on the 2024 force plate study of Reconnaissance Marines and on CBC’s 2026 MHSRS work on cognitive performance variability.

Jill Boberg, PhD, is Senior Research Coordinator at the USC Center for Body Computing, where she leads study coordination, regulatory affairs, and grant development for CBC’s Department of Defense-funded research programs, working with USC and military institutional review boards to design and field studies in operational environments. She holds a doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania and degrees in mechanical engineering from Stanford, and spent eleven years as a senior research analyst in ICT’s Affective Computing Group before joining CBC in 2021.

Matt Bartels, a retired Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel and a graduate of the USC Marshall Master of Business for Veterans program, serves as CBC’s military liaison for on-base research. He advises on military operational context and study design, and is a co-author on both 2026 MHSRS posters and the 2024 force plate study of Reconnaissance Marines.

Steve McLelland leads software development for CBC Lightning, the center’s research platform. He is a co-author on both Digital cORA studies in the Journal of Special Operations Medicine and on the 2024 MHSRS poster describing the platform.

Joe Perez is an entrepreneur and executive with 25 years of experience in online games, digital health, and media, and a co-founder of Day-J, Tastemade, LIVESTRONG.COM, and Demand Media. He advises CBC on mobile technology and business strategy.

Mark Sheehan is a Senior Information Security Analyst at BI WORLDWIDE, with prior senior information security and technology leadership across healthcare, manufacturing, and technology. He advises CBC on cybersecurity for digitally collected health and human performance data.
